1 PSYCHODYNAMIC THEORY
The Psychodynamic theory focuses on how conflicts faced in different stages of life
determine a person’s development. The theory was first proposed by Sigmund Freud, and
Erik Erikson later built on it and proposed his own psychosocial theory, According to
Erikson, the life cycle is composed of eight stages, and each stage represents a challenge
people face at a particular age Challenges are met through a combination of inner
psychological influences outer social influences. Successful completion of a challenge
prepares a person for the next stage. Outcomes of development are influenced by how well
