CLEET – Firearms Questions and Answers Already Passed The student will identify CLEET'S general safety rules relating to all firearms and handling conditions Treat all firearms as though they were loaded. Never point a firearm at anyone unless you are ready & willing to kill that person. Keep your finger (primary safety) off the trigger until your sights are on the target. Always make positive target identification, and be sure of the area behind your target. The student will identify what must first be accomplished whenever a person picks up a firearm. ENSURE THAT IT IS UNLOADED NEVER LAY A FIREARM DOWN WITHOUT FIRST UNLOADING IT. The student will identify when a firearm, which is being brought to the range, must be unloaded. ALL FIREARMS BROUGHT TO THE RANGE MUST BE UNLOADED The student will identify when a firearm, which is intended for use on the range, must be checked and approved. ALL FIREARMS MUST BE CHECKED BY A QUALIFIED POLICE ARMORER & APPROVED BY THE RANGE MASTER PRIOR TO USE ON THE RANGE The student will identify when firearms may be loaded on the range. FIREARMS WILL BE LOADED ON THE RANGE ONLY AFTER POSITION HAS BEEN TAKEN ON THE FIRING LINE, AND ONLY AFTER THE COMMAND TO LOAD HAS BEEN GIVEN FROM THE TOWER. The student will identify where spent brass is to be ejected EJECT SPENT BRASS ONTO THE GROUND, NOT INTO YOUR HAND OR A CONTAINER The student will identify where a firearm may be un-holstered NO FIREARM WILL BE TAKEN OUT OF THE HOLSTER OTHER THAN WHEN ON THE FIRING LINE, OR IN A DESIGNATED DRYFIRE AREA The student will identify what must be checked free of obstructions prior to loading and firing a firearm. ALL FIREARMS WILL BE CHECKED FOR CHAMBER AND BARREL OBSTRUCTIONS BEFORE LOADING AND FIRING The student will identify when the trigger finger may be placed on the trigger when the weapon is being presented NEVER PLACE YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER UNTIL THE FIREARM IS CLEAR OF THE HOLSTER & SAFELY POINTED DOWN RANGE. The student will identify the procedure to follow when experiencing a squib load IN THE EVENT OF A SQUIB LOAD, KEEP THE FIREARM POINTED DOWN RANGE, AND CALL FOR A LINE OFFICER. NEVER FIRE A SUCCEEDING ROUND FOLLOWING A SQUIB LOAD UNTIL THE BARREL HAS BEEN CHECKED FOR OBSTRUCTIONS! The student will identify when the shooter may proceed from the firing line toward the target. NEVER PROCEED FROM THE FIRING LINE TO THE TARGET AREA UNTIL ALL FIREARMS ARE HOLSTERED & SECURED; THE LINE HAS BEEN CLEARED; AND YOU ARE INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY THE TOWER OPERATOR.
