North Carolina Pharmacy Law Latest Update Graded A+ North Carolina Board of Pharmacy (BOP) Members 6 Members - 5 Rph, 1 Public. Alll residents of NC. 1 Rph from each of 5 different geographical regions. Rph get elected in April by other Rph's in the state (and residing in NC) and public member is appointed by the governer. Term - 5 years, no more than 2 consecutive terms Board elects Pres, VP and other officers for 1 yr terms Meetings: At least 2 per year. Per Diem $100 + traveling expenses. Approves SOP, issues regulations concerning pharmacy practice. Within 6 months of appointment and every 2 years recieve training. Executive Director of the BOP Employed by the BOP. Is the secretary and tresurer of the board. Conducts invstigations. May file complaint and prosecute in board meetings Requirements for Pharmacist Licensure File Application Appear at board meeting Exams (Naplex, MPJE, Practical Examination?). Score of 75 or greater. Must have up to 1 year (1500 hours) experience under pharmacist after attending at least 2 years of pharmacy education. Criminal background check with fingerprints (can charge fee for this) Pharmacy Technician Registration Items Name, Pharmacy, Pharmacist-Mgr, Dates of Employment, fee. Renew Annually, expires on Dec 31. -Certified tech program and students - need not do training but must register. -Volunteer tech - Complete training but need not register. Hiring of Non-Certified Techs -Must have HS Diploma or equivalent or currently enrolled in program that awards a HS diploma or equivalent. -Rph-Mgr must notify BOP within 21 days of date of employment. -Rph-Mgr training and this training must be completed within 180 days of employment. -THEN register with BOP as a tech within 30 days of completion of training. Hiring of Certified Techs - Register with BOP - Notify BOP within 10 days of begining employment as a tech at a certian pharmacy. Rph Supervision (Rph:Tech Ratio) 1 Rph can supervise 2 Techs. -May ask for written approval to change ratio but additional techs must be CERTIFIED. -Board must respond within 60 days of written request. - Certified VERIFICATION techs in the hospital setting do not count toward the 2:1 Tech:Rph ratio. Vaccines/Ages Imm Certified Pharmacist can Administer -14 years or more: Influenza -18 years or more pursuant to rx order/PCP confirmation: Pneumococcal, Herpes Zoster, Hepatits B, Meningococal, Tdap/Td (except if the patient has an open wound/puncture) -Must notify PCP of administration and add to NC immunization registry within 72 hours. - Maintain records x 3 years Pharmacist License renewal - Expires Dec. 31st Annually -Renew on/after Dec 1st every year
