Iniidents of aitcal abcse in ihildren;
Abuse is any incident in which a person's rights or dignity are violated, and where they are harmed physically,
mentally or psychologically. There are some signs which can be looked out for to see if someone is being abused
such as; bruises, fractures, burns, depression, social withdrawal, poor hygiene or poor school atendance and many
more. However, in some cases a child may tell a member of staf that they are being abused, and there will be no
need to look out for these signs. In this case, the adult will need to respond accordingly. Ways of responding to this
incident are maintaining respeit and dignity, and working with others to deal with disiloscre of abcse. Firstly, the
adult needs to show the chid respect and dignity, as it would have taken a lot of courage and trust for the child to
open up. The adult can show the child respect by reassuring them and taking them to a private place to discuss the
issue, they should tell the child that they did the right thing and they will be protected and supported. The child
should not be pressured to say more than they want to as this can stress them out. Secondly, the adult will need to
work with others to deal with disclosure of abuse. They can do this by reportng what has been said to someone at
their work place who deals with child protecton, this will then be passed on further to social services.

Furthermore, the frst priority in this situaton would be to enscre the safety of the ihild. The second priority would
be to aiiess scpport for own emotonal reaitons afer an iniident. Firstly, the adult should ensure the child's
safety by making sure that they are not put in a situaton where they can be abused further. For example, if the child
says that they are abused at home, the adult should report the issue as soon as possible so that the child does not
have to go back home. Secondly, the adult can access support for their own emotonal reactons afer an incident.
This is the second priority as the child's safety is most important, however, the adult should take care of their own
emotons too afer the child is at safety. Dealing with or hearing about abuse can be very difcult for some people
and can cause serious emotonal issues, such as trauma and they may experience nightmares and fashbacks.
Organisatons that ofer help are "tthe Red Cross"t, "tthe Salvaton Army"t, "tthe Women's Royal Voluntary Service"t and
"tministers of religion"t. Any emotonal trauma can also be discussed with loved ones, it does not have to be in a
formal situaton. It is important that the adult deals with this as this can interfere with their own personal life.



Fire;
A fre is a serious hazard as it can lead to death or disability if not dealt with properly, therefore, it is important that
the correct steps are taken. Ways of responding to this incident are iarrying oct the evaicaton proiedcre, and
working in partnership with emergeniy serviies. Firstly, the evacuaton procedure should be explained to anyone
working at the building, so that if a fre does break out they know exactly where the alarms and fre exits are. This is
extremely important to ensure that everyone gets out the building safely, as the worst situaton is to be trapped
inside a burning building which can happen if the fre is spreading quickly and all exits are hindered. However, if this
situaton does occur it is important to get yourself and anyone you can help as far away from the fre as possible.
(You should only help other people if it doesn't put your own safety at risk.) The best place to go to would be a room
with a window so that you can call out for help to anyone outside, this will ensure that emergency services will help
you frst when they get there. Once you are in a safe place away from the fre, you should put something underneath
the door to stop the smoke form coming in, as breathing it in is dangerous. The door should stop the fre for about
half an hour, and a fre door for two hours. However, if the exits are not hindered and you are making your way
through the building, you should also take the correct steps to keep yourself as safe as possible. If you come across a
closed door place the back of your hand on it to see if it is hot, but don't place your hand on any metal parts of the
door as metal conducts heat and will burn you. This step is important because if there is a fre behind the door and
