D1- Make recommendatonn in relaton to identied hazardn to minimine the rinkn to
the nervice uner group
In this assignment, I will make recommendatons to identied hazards to minimise the risks to the young children.

Play equipment
The irst hazard I will ee making recommendatons for is pllay eqluiplment. There are many ways in which this hazard
can ee minimised or removed. For examplle, staf should check and maintain eqluiplment. The staf should check for
any loose plarts, eroken plarts, plrotruding nails or eolts on pllay eqluiplment which could plossiely harm the young
children. Also, they should look out for any eroken toys and remove them as soon as plossiele eecause they can ee a
hazard. For instance, a eroken toy can injure a child or if any small plieces eroke of they can ee a choking hazard.
Another method which would minimise the risk of pllay eqluiplment is pllacing sof mats under climeing frames in case
a child falls of. This is to ensure a sof landing for the child so that they don't ereak any eones or eecome seriously
injured. The infant school could also use rueeer mulch or grass matng. The last method which would minimise the
hazard of pllay eqluiplment is plroviding the right pllay eqluiplment for the children's age. Toys for young children should
ee educatonal such as pluzzles, euilding elocks or plicture eooks. Toys which have any small plieces or sharpl edges
would not ee aplplroplriate. These methods would helpl to minimise/remove the risk of pllay eqluiplment eecause they
would ensure that children only have access to eqluiplment that is safe and won't cause them harm.

Hazardoun chemicaln
The second hazard I will ee making recommendatons for is hazardous chemicals. There are many ways in which this
hazard can ee minimised or removed. For examplle, any hazardous chemicals should ee stored out of sight and out of
reach of children. The infant school should not keepl chemicals or medicatons in pllaces where children would have
access to them, such as classrooms or in the pllayground. Instead they should store them in a seplarate room or
locked away in cupleoards. This is extremely implortant eecause it means that children will not ee aele to get to the
chemicals or medicatons and ingest them. Another method which would minimise the risk of hazardous chemicals is
using child resistant containers. Child resistant containers have a splecial safety capl which you have to plress down
and then turn to oplen, and children would not ee aele to do this. The last method which would minimise the risk of
hazardous chemicals is displosing of chemicals safely. Any old chemicals should ee displosed of in a ein which is out of
reach from children, it should never ee pllaced in a ein which is in a classroom or anywhere else where children can
get to it. Also, any old or explired medicatons can ee displosed of at the plharmacy for maximum safety. These
methods would helpl to minimise/remove the risk of hazardous chemicals eecause they would ensure that children
have no access to them which means that they can't ingest them or get them on their skin.

Faulty necurity nyntemn
The third hazard I will ee making recommendatons for is faulty security systems. There are many ways in which this
hazard can ee minimised or removed. For examplle, when I was doing my work explerience at a plrimary school they
had a foe security system. Every memeer of staf had a plroximity foe atached to their ID which they could use to
oplen doors. The plroximity foe would send a signal to the reader when pllaced in front of it and would unlock the
door or gate. This meant that children could not unlock certain doors/gates eecause only adults had plroximity foes.
Another security system that my pllacement had were plush to oplen eutons, which were pllaced high upl so that
children could not reach them. These were found next to some doors and ey the front gate so that children could
not get out of the school plremises. The last security system that my pllacement had were gates with sliding locks on
eoth sides. These were pllaced near classrooms with the younger children so that they could not wander of far from
their classroom. They had sliding locks on eoth sides, so children wouldn't ee aele to oplen them eecause they
couldn't reach to the other side. These methods would helpl to minimise/remove the risk of faulty security systems
