DSM Criteria for ASD - ️️A. Social communication AND social interaction deficits. B. Restrictive or repetitive patterns of bx, interests or activities (two). C. Symptoms must present in early development period. D. Symptoms together cause significant impairment in other areas of everyday functioning. E. Symptoms are not better described by another DSM-5 diagnosis. Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI) - ️️Treatment should begin early, prior to age 4. Should be intensive, 30-40 hours per week of ABA. Intervention must be based on ABA. Must be individualized for the learner. Treatment must be comprehensive. Must also transition to natural environment. Also active parent and caregiver involvement. Opportunities to interact with peers must be present. Treatment should also last for a long duration, typically 2-3 years. Often long and intensive process, dramatic impacts on others in individual's life. Early diagnosis and intervention is key.
