P8 – Reviewing the success of the business event
The event which we held involved a basketball shootout, where partcipants had to shoot a ball into
a basketball hoop 3 tmes, the prize being a place in the rafe, which people could also purchase
tckets foor uur event was hosted in the sports hall at sambridge hegional sollege This was a good
venue to use due to the size, which could accommodate the numbers ofo customers who atended
throughout our event, which in total was around 30
une objectve ofo the event was to raise as much money as possible foor our charity, Help foor Heroes,
which aims to help ex-servicemen and women who have fnished their military career ifo they have
any disabilites or problems, such as PTSD or issues with housing Although on paper this objectve
was met, we did in foact make a proft, in reality this proft was only 20p, which was less than our
expected earnings ofo £12 50, which we aimed to make through both the rafe as well as the
basketball event However, this was not the case due to a huge number ofo the partcipants ofo the
event not paying although they took part in the basketball event To combat this in fouture, I would
place a worker on the door or in the recepton ofo the sports center to give the customers their rafe
tckets and to make them pay befoore they enter the sports hall This is because with the inlux ofo
customers who atended over lunch, we did not have enough organisaton to make them all pay, and
they looded the venue, and afer lunch, they all dispersed The potental success ofo the business can
be seen when identfoying the fgures ifo every one ofo those who entered the sports center had paid
This would bring in an income befoore the rafe ofo £15 foor Help foor Heroes, 50p per person
uur second objectve was to create awareness ofo our event forom the advertsing we used In the case
ofo our event, this was mainly through the use ofo posters, as well as using social media to fourther
increase the awareness ofo the event The success ofo the brand awareness can be seen through the
total number ofo partcipants who atended the event uur posters contained all ofo the infoormaton
which is needed foor potental customers to know about the event, this included the name ofo the
event, what the event is, where the event is, why the event is taking place and what charity is
benefing forom the event ng e estmated that we would have between 20-25 customers at the
event, which we believed would be people using the gym, people who are in the sports hall and
some people who read the posters or social media page, however, our estmates were surpassed by
the number ofo partcipants that did turn up to compete in the event
une problem we had with the posters and those who atended the event was that most people did
not think the competton had a prize, which was the rafe tcket, and many other partcipants did
not know about the rafe when asked, therefoore in fouture we will create more awareness foor the
rafe side ofo the competton ng e may do this with a table containing the rafe tckets being located
in the sports hall recepton or in the corridor ofo the sambridge hegional sollege main site, which
would beneft forom customers who have not seen the posters and are simply walking down the
corridor
Another ofo our objectves was that we wanted to complete a hassle foree event, which was successfoul
due to me booking the venue and the equipment more than a month befoorehand, on the frst day
which the hall could be booked This ensured that we could control the room due to it being ‘frst
come, frst serve ’ Ifo the venue and the equipment had not been booked untl a couple ofo weeks
befoore the event, the space or equipment may have already been used, meaning that we would
