Sarah's Law Campaign (Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme) - CORRECT ANSWER-Allows carers to ask the police to tell them if someone has a criminal record for child sexual offences any member of the public can ask. If the child is put at risk the police will consider sharing this information. The police will disclose information only if it is unlawful, necessary and proportionate to do so to keep the child safe. Sarah's (8 years old) murder in 2000 prompted the child sex offender disclosure scheme. Sarah was abducted and killed by a paedophile who had an existing conviction. Wanted a change of law, it was backed by the News of the World newspaper. Launched a petition supporting. Vigilante groups used name and shame tactics to get at paedophiles. Sarah's parents pushed the campaign at many events and conferences that lid to further publication of the campaign. Law piloted in 2008 and in 2010 law went to most of the country. The campaign was successful as there was a law change. Smoking Ban Campaign - CORRECT ANSWER-British Lung foundation charity started the campaign. Celebrities supported. Run for 3 years before change happened. Supported by the majority of parliament as a bill was passed. The media supported the campaign. Indoor smoking ban, smoking in enclosed public places and workplaces made illegal in all of the UK in 2007. Enacted in attempt to protect people from the effects of second-hand smoke. Prevents the increased risk of heart diseases, cancer, emphysema and other diseases.. Abortion Campaigns - CORRECT ANSWER-The abortion rights campaign is a movement for choice and change in Ireland. Lift the stigma and silence regarding abortion. Finally, educate about free, safe, legal abortion options in Ireland. Assisted Suicide Campaign - CORRECT ANSWER-Campaign for dignity in dying.
