Physical Therapy - Evaluation and treatment of a person by physical measures and the use of therapeutic exercise, and rehabilitative procedures, with or without assistive devices for the purpose of preventing, correcting, or alleviating any physical disabilities. Includes physiotherapy. Physical therapy includes: - - Establishment and modification of PT programs, treatment planning, patient education and instruction, and consultative services - Determining a PT diagnosis in order to treat the person's physical impairments, functional limitations, and physical disabilities;determining a prognosis; and determining a plan of therapeutic intervention - Design, fabrication, and revision of various assistive devices, and provision of education and instruction in the use of those devices including braces, splints, ambulatory or locomotion devices, wheelchairs, prosthetics and orthotics - Administration of topical drugs that have been prescribed by a licensed health professional authorized to prescribe drugs Physical therapy diagnosis means: - Judgement that is made after examining the neuro musculoskeletal system or evaluating or studying its symptoms and that utilizes the techniques and science of physical therapy to establish a pan of therapeutic intervention. PT diagnosis does not include a medical diagnosis. Physical measures include: - Massage and other manual therapy techniques, heat, cold, air, light, water, electricity, sound, and performance of tests of neuromuscular function Physical therapy DOES NOT include: - - The use of electricity for cauterization or other surgical purposes. - The use of Roentgen rays or radium for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes Physical Therapist - A person who practices or provides patient education and instruction in physical therapy and includes a physiotherapist ********* Individual who performs initial examination unless that PT has transferred the responsibility for the management of the patient's care to another PT and that PT agrees to the transfer Physical Therapist Assistant - A person who assists in the provision of physical therapy treatments, including the provision of patient education and instruction, under the supervision of a physical therapist Supervision - Availability and responsibility of the supervisor for direction of the actions of the person supervised Duties of PT section - - Ohio OTPTAT board licenses persons desiring to practice PT or to practice as PTAs in this state - Section conducts investigations, inquiries, or hearings. Any findings should be confirmed or approved by the section The Section shall: -Keep record of its proceedings -Keep register of applicants showing name and location of the institution granting applicant's degree/certificate in PT and whether or not license was issued -Maintain a register of every PT and PTA in this state; including last known place of business, last known residence, and date and number of the license -Deposit all fees collected by the section -Provide applicant with section's address, dates of upcoming meetings, and a list of section member names upon receipt of a license application. PT License Qualifications - Submit to PT section of OTPTAT board: - Name - Current address - Physical description & photo - Proof of completion of a master's or doctorate program of PT educaion that is accredited by NPT accreditation agency - Application fee of no more than $125 PT Education Requirements - - Minimum of 120 academic semester credits or its equivalent, including courses in biological and other physical sciences - Course in physical therapy education that has provided instruction in basic sciences, clinical sciences, and PT theory and procedures PT License Approval - Section will approve application to sit for the examination no later than 120 days after receiving the complete application - The board can/should - -Request documents relevant to the section's evaluation of the application -Notify applicant in writing of section's intent to deny a license and applicant's right to request a hearing to appeal the section's decision
