Work Place Violence
Work is a basic component of any society and when people are working together viciousness is inevitable. This viciousness is characterized by physical abuse, harassment, intimidation or threats (Stout, Castillo, Amandus, & Pizatella, 2017). It I bound to occur inside the workstation or outside. These assaults may result in coercion to undertake a certain action, resignation from work or even result in the death of a workmate. Workplace violence may face any employee and in most cases emanates to those employees who work late at night or at dawn. It is prevalent in crime-prone communities. Types of Workplace Violence 1. Worker-to-worker Violence This kind of vehemence is perpetrated by a current or a former employee of a given organization (Stout, Castillo, Amandus, & Pizatella, 2017). Often times it emanates from workrelated disagreements. This disagreement may be brought about by losses or misunderstandings between an employee and a fellow employee or between an employee and the employer or supervisors. In this case, the violence may be brought about by the urge to get vengeance. 2. Customer/Client Violence This is conflict emanating from a customer. Often times the client is a perpetrator who causes disruption during the normal operations of an organization (Sareen, 2016). In most cases, such incidences may emanate in facilities offering social services such as prisons, hospitals, schools. It may be as a result of dissatisfaction from the services offered, bitterness as a result of the loss or mental illness. The conflict emanates while the client is being served by the service provider. This will lead to demotivation of employees in the organization which will lower their productivity. 3. In this cases, the perpetrator or robber do not have an authentic relationship with the employee or organization (Sareen, 2016). The primary motive is theft. They include shoplifting, trespassing or hijacking. Criminal final target those employees who handle cash often when serving their clients for example in banks, cab drivers who work during the night all alone. Often, this criminal activities will cause injury or death. 4. Personal Relationship In most cases, the culprit who causes conflict does not have a direct relationship with the organization the employee is working in but has a personal relationship with the employee or employer. It often times entail assaults as a result of domestic violence. The assaulter uses violence to gain power over and control the person who they had an intimate relationship with which may be between spouses. This may result to the injury of the victim as a result of uncontrolled anger, isolation of the victim of violence in the workplace, it will reduce the morale of the culprit and lead to reduced productivity (Sareen, 2016). 5. Ideological Violence This entails viciousness acts directed towards an organization, its employees or property. It is undertaken for religious, political or other social reasons (Sareen, 2016). This kind of violence is carried out by religious or political extremists who are inclined to their philosophies. They aim at frightening the staffs of an organization. This incidences often result in injury or death of the affected culprits. Any incidence that leads to workplace violence results in too much loss and damage to any organization. The situation may taint the image of the organization. It is upon the shareholder of the organization to provide a safe and healthy workplace that is conducting for work (Sareen, 2016). These acts bring about anxiety in the society. They bring a sense of insecurity into the society. This strips off the society the opportunity to grow and develop as investors run away from such insecure environments.
