John Dickenson (1738-1808) was a
prominent Philadelphian lawyer who
wrote letters and pamphlets that
were critical of British actions in the
1760’s and the 1770’s. He was
largely responsible for drafting and
implementing the Articles of
Confederation. Despite this, during
the Revolutionary War, however, he
chose neutrality and was one of the
strongest voices against
independence.
