In a workplace, it is vital to measure certain aspects of the business that relate to employee
performance, especially at a place like The Cheadle College. Some of the aspects that The Cheadle
College has to consider are lack of motivation/training, absence from work, high staff turnover, lack
of objectives within a team and poor grades/poor reputation.

Firstly, it is important for any workplace motivate their employees and provide them with adequate
training. Without motivation and training, employees will find difficulty in finding the will to teach
effectively, this will likely lead to lesser quality work that will affect how well the students are taught
and may affect their exam results in the long term. Also, without training teachers will be uninformed
about the subject area they are teaching and may end up teaching outdated information that is no
longer in the curriculum. One of the reasons why it is so important to measure the motivation and
training of employees at The Cheadle College is in case of surprise Ofsted inspections of
observations, which could give the college a bad reputation if they come to the conclusion that the
teachers are ill-trained and ill equipped to work.

One way in which The Cheadle College can manage employee motivation and training is to set up
reward schemes to give recognition to their staff and set up regular refresher sessions to keep all
their staff informed.

Being absent from work is a big factor in a lot of businesses and organisations, this is because it is
impossible to predict or fully prevent staff from being absent from work. However, in order to lessen
it happening there are procedures or backup plans The Cheadle College can put in place. Firstly, they
can give their employees adequate rest days to prevent them from being overworked, this will
prevent them from getting sick and will lessen any stress preventing them from working effectively.
Also, they can ensure they always have a substitute on hand to take over the class if needed.

It is important to manage an employee’s absences to prevent them from taking advantage of the
business and not coming into work, it is also necessarily as teachers and staff play a vital role in the
day to day operation of a college, and without them the college would be unable to function
properly.

Retention is an important factor because it dictates how many members of staff and students
actually attend the college, as well as how long they have worked/studied there. It is important for
an establishment such as The Cheadle College to maintain a high retention level because it will
increase their popularity within the community and will provide them with more funding from the
government if they are responsible for a large number of students. In order to keep retention levels
high among students, The Cheadle College could implement various different ideas, one of these is to
prevent students from wanting to leave in the first place, they can do this by providing adequate
facilities and meeting all the needs of their students. There are multiple ways of meeting the needs
of students, not just physically by providing facilities but also by giving them opportunities and staff
to talk to when they are in need of help.

By managing to retain students the college can benefit their development by providing them with
adequate teaching that they can take with them to higher education and their careers.

Lack of objectives within a team can affect many different businesses as well as The Cheadle College,
this is because of how important and widely used objectives are within a business. Without an
objective, businesses can have difficulty identifying how much progress they have made or how close
they are to achieving a target, this is especially detrimental when businesses such as The Cheadle
College are reliant on progression and results. By creating objectives as part of a team, departments
