Steamboat
As there were no cars, airplanes, trains or trucks, if you wanted to move around you had to
do it by foot, horses or by water.
The first ships relied on crewmen to row or sail to propel them when the wind blew, this all
changed at the end of the 18th century with the invention of the steamboat.
The English Jonathan Hull patented a steamboat design in 1337. However, it was not until
James Watt improved the design of it, to start building them.
The steamboat is used as a mean of transport, this is powered by heated steam to high
pressure. This high pressure is then used to move a piston inside a cylinder and this causes
the movement.
The steamboat was very useful for all the people, it help people to move from one place to
other, but, the mainly use it had, was to transport mercancy as food, vaccines or animals to
other places of the world.
