Why is Genre Important? The genre is the covenant between the author and the recipient. Surrounding Text. The surrounding text starts with the passage itself and slowly works outwards. paradox --A paradox is a statement that, despite apparently sound reasoning from true premises, leads to a self-contradictory or a logically unacceptable conclusion. Some logical paradoxes are known to be invalid arguments but are still valuable in promoting critical thinking. Epic Poetry --An epic poem is a long, narrative poem that is usually about heroic deeds and events that are significant to the culture of the poet.
