, 1 INTRODUCTION
Dear Student
We welcome you to the Honours module in Developmental Psychology (PYC4805). This
module has been designed according to the academic standard of the university and to suit
your personal needs – you may, therefore, choose between studying either child development
or adult development. We trust that you will find the section you choose to study, informative
and interesting as well as personally enriching.
You will receive a number of tutorial letters during the year. A tutorial letter is our way of
communicating with you about teaching, learning and assessment. Tutorial Letter 101/2017
contains important information about the scheme of work, resources and assignments for this
module. We urge you to read it carefully and to keep it at hand when working through the study
material, preparing assignments, preparing for the examination and addressing questions to
your lecturers. This tutorial letter also provides all the information you need with regard to the
prescribed study material. Please make sure that you obtain the prescribed material as soon as
possible.
It is suggested that you read Tutorial Letter 301 in combination with Tutorial Letter 101 as it
gives you an idea of generally important information when studying at a distance and within a
particular College. In Tutorial Letter 101, you will find the assignments and assessment criteria
as well as information on the preparation and submission of assignments. You will also find
important information about the examination in this tutorial letter.
As a postgraduate student you will be expected to study developmental psychology with insight
and understanding. In assignment 02/assignment 04 you will have the opportunity to relate your
theoretical knowledge of a topic in developmental psychology to information you have gathered
from two research participants.
Right from the start we would like to point out that you must read all the tutorial letters you
