PRESENT DAY

only be the rich families who could afford to take holidays in Europe. Because of how things have
changed, it is not just rich people who can afford to take holidays. Any body can take a holiday,
just as long as they have a little bit of cash saved up.
❖ In the 17th and 18th Century young English elites would spend 2-4 years travelling around Europe
to learn about architecture, geography, language and culture. This was known as The Grand Tour.
This happens now in the present day. Students from schools, colleges and university's will visit
countries abroad to learn.
❖Doctors discovered that the sea was good for peoples health, therefore people wanted to visit
coastal resorts in the UK such as Blackpool.
❖It was the 1930’s and after the 2nd World War that the Travel and Tourism Industry took off
