 You need to make decisions about work and studies based on your interests and
skills and on the requirements of higher education institutions and the job market.
 Find out about availability of jobs, availability of financial aid, study fees,
accommodation, and transport and how to apply.
 Act on your decision- make an effort to reply, have all forms and organise
requirements for your choice.
 Apply as early as June this year. Have provisional acceptance on grade 11 results and
final acceptance on matric results.

Job or course application for additional or higher learning.

Job Application.
Before applying for a job make sure:
 It is what you want to do, not someone else’s decision
 Gathered as much info as possible on various options
 Researched jobs in detail- know qualifications, what it entails, salary,
transport.

Application for a course at a higher education
institution or for additional education.
Consider when applying:
 Are there other courses that would suit your interests and skills better?
 The location of institution should not be a deciding factor.
 What fees will you have to pay?
 Institution= good reputation, offer value for money, courses recognised.
*Find out from South African Qualification Authority (SAQA), National
Qualifications Framework (NQF), Council on Higher Education (CHE)
 Where will you live if its far away?
 Motivations for studying course- friends, family etc.


Availability of Funds
Money=biggest barriers following dream career.
 Bursary- have good marks/don’t have money to pay for studies.
 Scholarship- from a company, business, municipality…if you did well at school.
 Student Loan- from a bank or Edu-Loan….you will pay it back
 Learnership- earn while you learn.

 Can you get to job or institution by- walking, taxi, bus, train, bicycle or car

 The availability of funding.
 Not being able to follow your first choice of course because it’s full.
 Transport and accommodation.
 Responsibilities at home.
 Having to rewrite subjects to qualify for a course.
 Lack of jobs that interest you or qualified for.
