Class notes for STAT 2000 Module 3
Rather than deterministic processes, statistics works primarily with probabilistic processes - processes in which the outcome is not predetermined. In this module, you will learn the basics of using probability to make reliable predictions about unreliable events. Learning Objectives: 1. Find basic probabilities from tables or descriptions. 2. Use the rules of probability- complement, addition, and multiplication- in the appropriate context. 3. Find conditional probabilities. 4. Verify the validity of probability distributions using the two properties of valid probability distributions. 5. Calculate and interpret expected values for discrete probability distributions. 6. Use normal probability distributions to calculate probabilities for continuous, quantitative contexts. NOTICE!!! I ACCIDENTALLY POSTED INCOMPLETE NOTES I WILL UPDATE THIS MODULE WITH THE COMPLETE NOTES ASAP. SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE!!
