ABO Tools and Adjustments 100% Correct PD ruler a small millimeter ruler used to take and check measurements for customers and glasses. Pupilometer A device in which light is reflected back to the optician when the customer looks thorugh it. The pupilometer then measures the distance between the light in the right and left eye. Lens Clock Used to measure the curvature of a lens, also called its base curve. It can also be used to measure the dioptric power of the lens where Back base curve - front base curve = power of lens Thickness Gauge Used to measure center and edge thickness of a lens. It can also check if the lens is spherical or aspheric. Lensometer Measures the prescription of the lens. It is used for QCing and neutralizing glasses. Frame Heater Used to heat an acetate or mixed material frame to make it more malleable for adjustments. Nose Pad Pliers Half Padded Pliers double padded pliers Wide Jaw Pliers Needle Nose Pliers Eyewire Shaper Axis Plier Cutter Pliers Temple Adjustments -Add pantoscopic or retroscopic tilt -Increase or decrease temple splay -Adjust temple fold Frames Sitting Crooked Lower the temple on the side that sits lower OR Raise the temple on the side that sits higher. Do the opposite of the issue. It doesn't matter which side you adjust, the higher or lower side, as long as you raise or lower the correct temple. One Side Closer Bring the temple of the side sitting closer inward (less splay) OR bring the temple of the side sitting further outward (more splay) The side of the frame sitting closer is (probably) more splayed so make sure the angle between the temple and the frame front are about 90 degrees or even with each other. Frames Too Loose Adjust the end piece and make the bend more hooked OR adjust the splay of the temples and make the angle less splayed. -If you see the temple splay angle is good, adjust -the end piece. If you see the end piece bend is good, adjust the temple splay. Frames Sit Too High or Too Low If the customer feels the frames sit too high: Add retroscopic tilt If the customer feels the frames sit too low: Add pantoscopic tilt Acetate Frames Sit Too Close/Far -If the customer feels their acetate frames sit too close to their eyes: Add pantoscopic tilt OR Adjust temple splay angles to be more acute -If the customer feels the acetate frames sit too far from their eyes: Add retroscopic tilt OR adjust temple splay angles to be more obtuse Titanium frames sit too close or far -If the customer feels their titanium frames sit too close to their eyes: Add pantoscopic tilt OR Adjust nosepads further away from frame front -If the customer feels the titanium frames sit too far from their eyes: Add retroscopic tilt OR adjust nosepads close away from frame front Lenses Hit Lashes/Brows If the customer feels their lenses are hitting their lashes or brows: Add pantoscopic tilt OR Adjust nosepads further away from frame front (TITANIUM FRAMES ONLY) Pantoscopic Tilt The effective power of the lens can be increased or decreased when changing the distance between the eyes and the lens (pantoscopic tilt). The closer a lens sits to the eye, the more minus power effect is added. The further a lens sits from the eye, the more plus power effect is added. Therefore, increasing or decreasing vertex distance will add or take away some power of the lens.
