As part of this report I have been exploring factors involved in human resource planning in
Tesco, so I will be describing the internal and external factors to be taken into account when
planning Tesco’s human resources requirements.
In business, human resources is the work that contributes all the employees or collaborators of
an organization, although the most frequent to call thus the management system or process
that is in charge or process that is in charge of selecting, hiring, training, employing and retain
staff in an organization.
Tesco is a British multinational grocery and general merchandise retailer, it is the third largest
retailer in the world measured by profits and the fifth largest retailer in the world measured by
revenues, and it has around 7,200 stores in 14 countries around the world and 450,000
employees.
A good management of human resource in an organization is fundamental and essential for
the performance and prosperity of the organization and the business helping and contributing
its development and improvement. It also contributes to the employees’ effectiveness and
efficiency, to be able to achieve corporate goals.
HR Planning factor Effect or impact on HR planning for business. Will it
mean hiring more or fewer staff? Asking existing staff to
work longer hours? Training or re-training existing staff?
Internal factors:
Technological change Technological change create an impact in the company HR
planning because, it is constantly updating and offering
new technologies that can offer to the company new
ways of administration, this change can be overcome by
hiring more staff or re-training old staff to teach them
how to use this technologies in order to achieve the
company objectives with more facility.
New markets New markets create an effect on the company HR
planning because it gives to the company new
opportunities to expand and growth in different location,
this change creates an impact on HR because people
would have to be hired according the location
specifications, such as language, culture, etc. So, more
people should be hired in the company to be able to
cover the requirements given.
Location of production Location of production also creates an impact on the
company HR planning because as well as new markets if
Tesco’s products are made on china or France the
employees might speak the local language to be able to
communicate with others and achieve corporate goals, so
the company should try to hire more staff depending of
the company’s location of production.
