Businesses communicate by sharing information through different ways. It is vital that they
communicate effectively in order to get things done fast and perfectly and to help with the
overall running of a business.

The different types of information that can be communicated:
Verbal information - Verbal information is basically face-to-face or through the use of a
telephone. Verbal communication is seen as the greatest method to communicate as it
is fast and there is less scope for misinterpretation. However, with the restrictions in
time and budgets in business, it is not always possible to meet in person. Talking
through a telephone allows complex ideas to be expressed and discussed. Verbal
communication altogether allows a business or organisation to run more efficiently
and effectively.

Written information - Written information is the use of physical symbols to represent words.
It can include things such as diagrams, graphs and charts. Numerous companies will
use an e-mail system as a way of transferring information and communicating with
employees inside the business. However, not everyone checks their e-mails frequently
and thus can stop information being communicated promptly. Written information can
come from a varied selection of sources such as newspapers and books. Numbers can
also be contained within the form of written communication also.

On-screen information - On screen information can be produced on some kind of electronic-
screen such as a mobile phone, computer or TV. It can also be seen on multimedia TV
and CD-ROMs that combine text, graphics, audio and video.

Multimedia information – Multimedia information includes information that is being
produced in multiple forms of media which are then joined together. Media can be
text, graphics, audio, animation, video and data.

Web based information - Web-based information is a fast method of communication since it
is able to stream complex content to any computer connected to the internet easily.
This type of information can then be received and read whenever and wherever which
can be convenient for businesses. Nowadays, a great quantity of interactive
multimedia is sent and received through the internet.

The business that I will be researching on in this assessment is Taylor Wimpey. It is one of
the largest British based housebuilding companies with 24 offices located in the UK. They
build and sell over 10,000 homes each year as well as making a positive contribution to
communities by developing infrastructure and making financial contributions to local
authorities.

Taylor Wimpey communicates using verbal communication. For example, the manager or
lead builder will tell their other team members what job needs to be done and what the latest
time it must be done for. I don’t think that this type of communication is efficient enough for
Taylor Wimpey to use all of the time as information passed on to workers can be easily
