MODULE CODE: TMN3704
ASSIGNMENT 4
ASSIGNMENT 04: COMPULSORY
FOCUS: LESSON PLANNING

Activity 1
1.1 Define the concept "lesson plan".
A lesson plan refers to a teacher’s plan for a particular lesson. The teacher must plan
what they want to teach learners, why a topic is being covered and decide how to
deliver a lesson. Learning objectives, learning activities and assessments are all
included in a lesson plan. A lesson plan is a teacher9s guide for facilitating a lesson. It
typically includes the goal (what students need to learn), how the goal will be achieved
(the method of delivery and procedure) and a way to measure how well the goal was
reached (usually via homework assignments or testing). This plan is a teacher9s
objectives for what students should accomplish and how they will learn the material.
1.2 Identify and explain any two key concepts from the definition of a lesson plan.
These are terms that are central to the main points of the description of a lesson
plan.

• Objectives
Having a lesson objective can be one of the most important components in your lesson
plan. An objective helps a teacher define what their learners are going to learn during
the lesson and explain in short how the learning will be assessed. You could write your
objective on the board for learners to understand better as how they should be able to
tackle the topic once the lesson has been concluded. A teacher generally updates her
lesson objective every day.

• Resources and materials
It is in a teacher’s best interest to have her resources and materials prepared before the
lesson commences as in gives you a lot of time to focus on the actual work during the

, lesson. As a teacher you can use the type of material which suits you best such as if
you prefer writing on the board notes or printing notes out for the learners.
