Read the extract below, then answer the questions:
Learner assessments are important so that teachers know how much learners understand from
their daily teachings. First, the teacher sets out the learning objectives for each lesson. The teacher will
know whether the objectives have been achieved by giving learners daily class activities which will be
assessed before the end of the lesson. Once the objectives have been achieved, the teacher can measure if
and how her/his students have performed.

1.1 Describe the concept pre-assessment. (3)

beginning a new lesson or learning unit. It helps educators tailor their instruction to meet individual student
needs by understanding their starting points.



1.2 Why is pre-assessment valuable in a Creative Arts classroom? Give reasons for your answer and give
examples to support your answer. (3)

Answer: Pre-assessment is valuable in a Creative Arts classroom because it provides insights into students'
diverse backgrounds and prior experiences, enabling teachers to design engaging and relevant lessons. For
instance, in a music lesson, pre-assessment can reveal students' musical preferences and prior knowledge,
helping select appropriate activities and music pieces.



1.3 Not all pre-assessment activities are functional. What do you have to avoid when creating pre-
assessment activities? (2)

Answer: When creating pre-assessment activities, one must avoid making them too complex or time-
consuming. These activities should be clear, concise, and aligned with the learning objectives. Additionally,
pre-assessment tasks should not divulge too much information about the upcoming content to ensure
accurate assessments.



1.4 How will you assess creative growth in your learners? (2)
