ASSIGNMENT 5 (TOTB 140 Hour): Teaching Young
Learners.100
Name: Fatima Mohamed
Date: 27 June 2023
1.What special considerations do you feel
teachers need to make when teaching young
learners?
Here are some important considerations I feel teachers need to make.
Teachers should adapt their teaching methods and materials to suit the age
and developmental stage of the young learners. Instruction should be
engaging, interactive, and involve hands-on activities that stimulate their
curiosity and creativity. Young learners may have limited vocabulary and
understanding of some concepts. Teachers should use simple and concise
language, provide clear instructions, and use visual aid examples to support
comprehension. Young children learn best through multiple senses so
teachers should incorporate a variety of sensory experiences such as visual
aids, music and movement.
Young learners thrive in a structured environment with predictable routines.
Teachers should establish clear daily routines, including transitions, and
provide consistent expectations and rules. This helps children feel secure
and reduces anxiety.
Each learner has unique strengths and interests. Teachers should
differentiate instruction to meet individual needs, provide opportunities for
independent and group work, and offer additional support for struggling
students would be understanding of the varying attention spans of young
children. They should adapt their teaching strategies and provide
opportunities for practice and reinforcement.
By considering these factors, teachers can create a positive and effective
learning environment that supports the growth and development of young
learners.
