1. Please explain which teaching method you feel is best to use when you qualify as
a teacher and why?
ANSWER:
I feel that the best methods to use would be CLT and The Silent way methods.
The Silent way method because I would make use of visual aids and encourage my students to learn by
doing, rather than the lesson just being told to them.
- This method also encourages the student to actively participate in the lesson, it would assist
them in encouraging their own input, which would facilitate & guide their learning experience.
The Communicative language Teaching method because it teaches the student how to use and be
comfortable with the language. With this method, students also learn to communicate both in writing
and verbally.
- The CLT method also highlights the importance of using proper grammar from the beginning, as
well as the emphasis on improving communication and interpersonal skills.
- This approach encourages students to learn through problem solving, tasked assignments and
actual participation.
The CLT method and the Silent Way method will both be used in conjunction with each other. This
would encourage the student to take active participation in their learning experience.
2. Please also reference examples of when you were a primary, secondary, or
tertiary learner and what method(s) your teacher employed that most resonated
with you.
In Primary School – Suggestopedia, because our teacher would often read out stories and ask the class
to imagine different scenarios. My teacher also played music in the classroom, this made me feel
comfortable and gave me confidence while learning in a relaxed environment.
In Secondary School/High School - Communicative Language Teaching or CLT approach, this method
resonated with me the best because it encouraged and allowed me to learn via problem solving. We
were often put into group settings, where each individual was given a different task to complete. This
method also encouraged me to think for myself, without constantly depending on the teacher.
In Secondary School/High School - The Lecture method – Some lessons were read out and explained to
us and we had to figure everything out on our own. I felt this method might not have been supportive
to all students and different methods should be used to engage learners and teachers alike.
