Young people - ANSWER--If we are not careful, we can be easily swayed to imbibe the values promoted
by the media like materialism, consumerism, competition, and individualism
-but we actively serve more in our own communities
Teenagers - ANSWER-Feels the tension between Christ's standards and the world's standards
Pope Benedict XVI - ANSWER--he understands well the real difficulties young people face in the process
of following Christ today
-"Do not listen to the interesting and seductive voices of these media"
Beatitudes - ANSWER--set of declarations that Jesus delivered in His Sermon on the Mount
-ethical and spiritual standards that Jesus set for those who want to follow Him
-present solemn pronouncements of blessings for those who have embraced Jesus' attitudes and values
-give us Jesus' formula for a happy and worthwhile life
-express what ordinary people really desire in their hearts deeply
-for all people of all times
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven - ANSWER--shows complete
dependence in God
-material possessions, friends, and talents have real value in our life but must be put into proper
perspective and we should put our ultimate trust in God
-Jesus led a simple life especially with the poor
-this beatitude can help teenagers put things in proper perspective. Material possessions are good and
necessary but does not define true worth of a person. What makes us truly valuable is the fact that God
loves us
, Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted - ANSWER--when pain, suffering, or sorrow
enter our lives, Jesus is there to comfort us because Jesus Himself experienced sorrow and mourning ,
we may also ask God through the Holy Spirit to console and comfort us, and the Holy Spirit comforts us
through other persons
-this beatitude tells us it's okay to grieve and it is natural and healthy to mourn and that sadness and
comfort is part of life
-Jesus promised "our grief will become our joy" => our mourning turns into God's blessing when our
sorrow awakens real compassion in us
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land - ANSWER--those who are like these remain ____
instead of arrogant come out as winners because their behavior shows that they are in control and are in
charge of the situation more than those who lose their "cool"
-know that their real worth depends on God's unconditional love for them so they are not afraid of
cheap attacks because they know humility is truth
-Jesus: was never too busy to play with children or to pray to His heavenly Father and He said that we
must try to break the vicious style of aggression and violence and willingly and actively pursue justice
and peace even at the cost of suffering
Efren Peñaflorida - ANSWER--2009 CNN Hero of the Year, when he received the award and a large
amount of money, the large part of the prize went to projects of the Dynamic Teen Company which he
founded and the others went to the Church
