English Language paper 1 question 5 (creative writing)
Gradually I returned to consciousness once again, peeled my eyes open to what it felt like a euphoric
new beginning from the crisp breeze, regenerating trance and welcoming warmth.
I could not comprehend the inane world around me (stunned by the blinding lights) except my body
like beryl my eyes like flaming torches and arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze
accompanied by the side with a myriad of sparkling wings.
But my body knew not to go to the abhorrent place but to jubilant heaven.
That’s where my destiny dwells in!
The exodus felt as instinctive as self-defence
All around me was the tranquillity of nature; the birds in the canopy, chirping and twittering in
distant melodies to their kin, clamp! The sound of my footsteps accelerated; the hissing of rodents
and whistling winds carried the pungent aroma of the rotten pine bark and the clouds like cotton
candy. Clamp! The emerald green pastures stretched as far as the eye could see below the warm
staunching sun and... there I was.
