Police Brutality Introduction The term police brutality refers to the usage of excessive or unnecessary violence by a police officer. However, an acceptable global definition is yet to appear. The phenomenon has been around throughout police history. From some of the earliest occasions of the U.S. slave patrols to the 21 st -century police departments, numerous police brutality cases have been evident. These cases have been disproportionately associated with minority, poor, and immigrant communities (Graham et al. 2020). Some of the animosity's clearest depictions include collections of graphical images; for example, in the 1960s, there were photos of police dogs attacking civil rights demonstrators while other police officers blasted the marchers with fire hoses. Recent examples include the famous footage of the 1991 Rodney King beating (Jennings, 2018). It is easier to think that there have been reforms to the police department 20 years later, but that is far from the truth.
