Designing Your Life Chapter 2 Reflection
The book's authors, Designing Your Life, introduce lifeview, workview, True North, and
Building your compass. Workview is what work means to a person by asking questions such as
what work is for? Why people do it? It is the philosophy one has about work. Understanding this,
it would prove difficult to let other people design our lives. These concepts lead to the
understanding that we should be interested in the work we do since work is the most crucial part
of human lives because each waking day is spent on working, raising the question of why should
we continue involving ourselves with work that does not inspire growth and force us to be our best
versions.
On the other hand, Lifeview refers to people's ideas about the world around them and its
working mechanisms. A person may understand their life view by asking questions like what
makes our lives valuable or worthwhile? How our lives relate to those of others in our families,
communities, and the world? How are growth, fulfillment, and experience important in our lives.
Burnett and Evans (2016) claim that once we have our lifeview and workview completed,
then the compass for a well-designed life will have been created to guide us on the path.

the only way to get away from that is by having a clearly defined workview and lifeview to build
our compasses.
