QUESTION 1

1.1 social order refers to a particular system of linked social structures, institutions,
relations, customs, values and practices that conserve, maintain and enforce
certain patterns of relating and behaving. Social order functionalists believe that
the four basic needs (food, shelter, money and clothing) are essential for
maintaining social order

1.2 Socialism is a system where the means of production are owned and controlled
by the government or the community as a whole (collective ownership) (Barkan,
2012: 596). Socialism means the abolition of exploitation

1.3 a) society means humans in groups and the context in which people live and
relate to one another. Societies can be distinguished between pre-modern and
modern societies. In the sociology of education course, we focus on modern
societies because the education system as we know it is a product of modern,
industrialised societies
b) Deviance is going against prevailing social norms. Deviance refers to rule-
breaking behaviour of some kind which fails to conform to the norms and
expectations of a particular society or social group. Deviance includes both
criminal and non-criminal acts, but it is quite difficult to pin down what members
of any society or groups actually regard as deviant behaviour.

1.4 One of the functions of sociology of education is the development of new social
patterns. The aim can be taught in the classroom by doing activity-based
learning in which the students will learn through direct participation in related
activities such as community programs and awareness campaigns.
Teachers can also educate students on a social sciences lesson to educate
them on the correct standards, this will allow the students to share their
perspectives on public views on social issues, which will fulfill new social
patterns. The school can organize specific programs such as cleaning programs,
which is essential to keeping the community clean. The class lessons may
include campaigns on road safety and climate change, improving the students'
knowledge within the classroom level.
