Christian Beliefs
Nature of God
● Omnipotent - all powerful
● Omnibenevolent - all-loving
● Just - God is fair and forgives those who are sorry for their actions
● Omniscience - All-knowing
● Transcendence - God exists outside of our world constraints and physics laws
● Immanence - God is “in the world”
● Christians question why evil and suffering in the world if God is omnipotent,
omniscience, omnibenevolent
● The solutions to the problem of evil are, God gave humans freewill, test of
faith, all part of God’s plans, Need evil to appreciate good
The nature of God
● Christians believe in one God who exists in three parts
● The Father, the Son and the Holy spirit - The Trinity
● Christians believe God the father is the creator of everything, transcendent
and the sustainer of all which shows the omnipotence of God
● The son is fully divine and fully human and a model for Christian behaviour.
● It shows how God understands suffering and shows him as omnibenevolent
● The Holy Spirit is the guiding part of the trinity and is a source of strength,
courage and wisdom
● It shows the omniscience and omnipresence of God
The life of Jesus
● Incarnation - when God took human form (in the form of Jesus) and was fully
God and fully human at the same time
● Virgin Mary was told by the angel Gabriel that her son would be divine and
would be named Jesus
● Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus
● During his life, Jesus suffered as a human, and taught forgiveness and
performed miracles such as healing the blind
● Jesus shared a passover meal with his disciples known as the Last Supper
● Jesus gave them bread and wine which he said were symbolic of his body
and his blood
● Crucifixion - when Jesus was put to death on the cross and suffered like a
human -Good Friday
● Jesus’ body was placed in a rock tomb and when people visited his tomb the
following sunday, they found his body to be missing
● Resurrection - when he came back to life, and he spoke with his disciples
● He is mentioned as appearing again many times over the next 40 days
● Ascension - when he ascended to Heaven
Original Sin
● Sin - an action that is against the laws of God

, ● Some people believe that everyone is guilty of original sin when Adam and
Eve ate the apple from the Garden of Eden.
● Salvation is the redemption of sins
● Salvation by grace - the belief that someone will be saved of their sins by
believing and following the example of Jesus
● Salvation by spirit - the belief that someone will be saved of their sins through
prayer and seeking forgiveness
● Salvation by law - belief that one can be saved of sins by following the law of
the land
● God made Jesus as a perfect human with no sin
● It is said that Jesus suffered on the cross to clear humans of all their sins
● Atonement is the restoration of humans relationship with God
Afterlife
● For Christians the afterlife is an eternity with God and is the ultimate aim for
Christians
● They want their souls to be reunited with God
● Hell is a place of eternal fire with pain and suffering
● Catholics believe in purgatory which is a stage after death where those that
have sinned are purified by a cleansing fire and then allowed into Heaven
Creation
● Literalists believe the Creation happened exactly as it is mentioned in the
Bible
● They believe that God created the world in 7 days
● They believe that God isn’t constrained by science or logic - and he is beyond
human understanding
● Non-literalists believe that God created the world, but the Big Bang explains
how it happened
● They believe in the design theory, as there must have been a creator because
the world is too complex to have happened by chance
Christian Practices

Worship
● Worship - acts of religious praise, honour or devotion
● Liturgical worship - A church service that follows a set structure or ritual
● Non-liturgical worship - A service that does not follow a set text or ritual
● Informal Worship - A type of non-liturgical worship,made up by an individual using his
or her own words
● Private worship - When a believer praises or honours God on their own
● Worship is a method in which Christians show their deep love, reverence and respect
for God
● Christians worship through prayer, meditation, bible readings, singing hymns,
preaching, pilgrimage or festivals
● Worship allows Christians to praise and thank God for his blessings
● They may ask for forgiveness of sins
