Key beliefs
● The six articles of faith in Sunni Islam are Tawhid (oneness of God), Angels
(passes messages to his Prophets through angels), Holy Books (Quran is a
direct revelation from God), The Prophets (25 prophets are mentioned in the
Quran), The Day of Judgement (All Muslims are judged and sent to Heaven
and Hell), Al-Qadr (Everything in the universe follows a divine masterplan)
● The 5 roots of Usul Ad-Din in Shia Islam are Tawhid (oneness of God), Divine
Justice (God will judge everyone on the Day of Judgement), The Prophets,
Authority of the Imams, Day of Resurrection
● Omnipotent - all powerful
● Omnibenevolent - all-loving
● Just - God is fair and forgives those who are sorry for their actions
● Omniscience - All-knowing
● Immanent - Allah is closely to every human
● Merciful - Allah shows compassion and mercy
Angels
● Angels are immortal and are pure and cannot sin
● They act as messengers to the prophets and take care of people
● Angels also record everything a person does which is used on the Day of
Judgement
● Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) revealed Allah’s words to Muhammad on the Night of
Power
● Angel Mika’el is the angle of Mercy and asks Allah to forgive people’s sins
● Angel Israfil will blow a trumpet to announce the Day of Judgement
Life after Death
● Akhirah is the word for life after death
● After death, the soul will enter a period of waiting until the Day of Judgement
● Jannah is the name for Heaven
● Jahannam is the name for Hell
● The good deeds will be weighed against the bad deeds
Prophethood
● Islam means submission to God
● Risalah is the arabic for prophethood
● It represents the ways Allah has communicated with humanity
● The prophets performed miracles which proved they really were prophets
● Prophet Adam was the first human being and was given the role of khalifah
(looking after the Earth)
● Prophet Ibrahim was around at the time when people worshipped idols and he
refused to do so. He also rebuilt the Kaaba after the great floods
● Prophet Muhammad was the final prophet in Islam and he was the one who
received the revelations of the Quran
