Peace and Conflict
● Peace means harmony between all in society
● It is the absence of violence and many people believe they should work for
peace
● Justice is bringing fairness back to the situation
● It is also bringing about what is right
● Christians believe that God is the ultimate judge and will bring justice
● Muslims believe in “jihad” which is the strive for justice”
● Forgiveness is letting go of blame against a person for wrongs that they have
done
● It is the letting go of bad feelings towards someone who has caused pain
● Christians are told to forgive 70x7 times
● Reconciliation is the making up between two sides after disagreement
● It is being reunited in a positive sense with someone who was separated from
you
Violence
● Protest - an expression of disapproval of an idea, often in a public group
● Violence - using actions that threaten or harm others
● Terrorism - the unlawful use of violence, usually against innocent civilians to achieve
a political goal

Reasons for War
● To defend your country
● To fight for for your beliefs or freedom
● Greed - the selfish desire for something
● Christians do not support this reason as greed comes from selfishness
● Self-defence - acting to prevent harm to yourself or others
● Retaliation - deliberately harming someone as a response to them harming you
● Religion teaches about peace and forgiveness and most religions are against
violence and war
Just War and Holy War
● Just War - a war which meets international accepted criteria for fairness
● A just war must not be for revenge and must be the last resort
● Holy War - fighting for a religious cause or God
Nuclear Weapons
● No religion supports the use of nuclear weapons
● Can be used as a deterrent
● Christians believe that Only God can end life
● They believe it causes unnecessary harm
● Pacifism - the belief of people who refuse to take part in war
● Islam means peace
● The Quran teaches that reconciliation and peace is better than fighting

● Victims of war are those involved in fighting, their families, dependants or refugees
● There are charities that provide shelter and supplies for refugees
