What is the role of a HR department?
Recruitment
The first point of contact for a new employee would be the HR department.
They would check references, perform background checks, and often conduct
interviews.
Training
HR would also give staff the necessary training to be in the position they are
in and inform them of any new policies and procedures.
Administration –
Dismissal
With regards to the disciplinary role in HR, this could lead to a dismissal.
Letting an employee go could be down to behaviour, absence or standard of
work.
Disciplinary
The disciplinary actions are there to ensure correct behaviour is being used in
the workplace. They would deal with issues such as sexual assault, absence,
dishonesty or theft.
Payroll
They will deal with payroll, wages and employee records. They ensure
employees are not overpaid or unpaid as it could lead to legal action being
taken.
Induction
It is important for HR to deal with inductions and enrolment as it shows
employees what they expect and will give them information so they feel
comfortable in their new place of work.

safe. HR Department would have accident books and a system in place to
use if something did go wrong.
