Different Campaigns Research for A.C 2.1 Criminology
Unit 1 Controlled Assessment
Heads Together:
Purpose/Aims - aid mental health and tackle stigma of mental health.
Who is campaigning – Duke + Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry (The royal
foundation)
Background – opened up about their mental health struggles in hopes of opening up the
conversation for others.
Campaign methods/publicity – social media, news
Media support/public awareness – led to a marathon + fundraiser
Success – info line had a call increase of 58%, proving importance of awareness made.
Unlock:
Purpose/Aims - support those disadvantaged with a criminal record. Helps them to move on
and gain employment, as well as challenge discrimination against convicted criminals. Listen
to those who need support.
Who is campaigning – charitable organisation
Background – formed in 1998 by ex convicts that really wanted to rebuild and start their life
anew.
Campaign methods/publicity – websites, media appearances, published research
Media support/public awareness – media support it but low awareness.
Success – has helped with ex-offenders’ bank accounts.
#Knifefree:
Purpose/Aims - show the consequences of carrying a knife and encourage youth to refrain
from any knife crime.
Who is campaigning – FCB Inferno (London shop)
Background – started in 2018, showed real life stories of people with their experiences of
knives in the past, and how they came past it.
Campaign methods/publicity – TV, radio and social ads
Media support/public awareness – Awareness rose as posters were being put up in major
cities and big social media platforms drew attention to it
Success – Childline and NSPCC offered their aid to give advice to young people about their
concerns
#ComeoutforLGBT (Stonewall):
Purpose/Aims - to stand up for the LGBT+ community against those who treat them
unequally. Fight for those in the community to have same rights and opportunities as
everyone else
Who is campaigning – Stonewall (charity)
Background – Stonewall rebellion in 1968 (riots), lasted for days, was in NY.
Campaign methods/publicity – social media platforms, news
Media support/public awareness – hashtag used to spread awareness
