ENGR 1400 Engineering Communications - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute- Lab #14 Worksheet.
ENGR 1400 Engineering Communications - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute- Lab #14 Worksheet. Lab #14 Worksheet (10 Points Total) Be sure to download these instructions on your computer before you st art this assignment. After completing all steps, show the results to your TA and upload this document and your modified VI file to your course BOX folder. This lab will showcase the acquisition and visualization of an elementary signal input. Your task is to use LabView to modify and record specific data. You are given a frequency response waveform chart to visualize a sound captured from your computer’s microphone input. For this activity, ensure your laptop microphone is operational (not muted). The location of your laptop’s microphone may vary by model. Not all laptops or operating systems are similar. 1. Configure Audio Input. (0 Points) a. Open the VI titled “Audio_Capture_V1.1_” (see Figure 1) b. Run the VI. c. Maintain a Sampling Rate of at least 10000 Hz. d. While generating a steady sound (speaking, singing) towards the microphone, adjust the Device ID value until you see the Amplitude jump considerably. 2. Create an amplitude waveform chart. (2 Points) a. Stop the VI if it is running. b. Right click in the open space of the front panel to access the “Controls”. c. Select Graph Waveform Graph d. Adjust the size and position as necessary. e. What is the graph measuring? i. HORIZONTAL AXIS: Time ii. VERTICAL AXIS: Amplitude f. On the block diagram (Ctrl+E to switch), connect the input node of the Waveform Graph to the wire between “Filter” and “Spectral Measurements”. g. Run the VI and note the output. 3. Try to hum a single pitch. (0 Points) a. Run the VI. b. Hum into the microphone. Notice the resulting frequency response. 4. Try to whistle a single pitch. (2 Points) a. Run the VI. b. If you are able, whistle into your microphone. Notice the resulting frequency response. What is the difference between a whistle and a hum? Show Less
