Adrenal Gland
- Cortex is composed of:
- zona glomerulosa = produces mineralcorticoids (Metabolism of important organic
ions (reabsorption of Na+ and secretion of K+ in kidney))
- zona fasciculata = produces glucocorticoids (Enhance effect of norepinephrine on
blood pressure and inhibit glucose utilization, anti-inflammatory )
- zona reticularis = Produces androgens (Potential source of sex hormones during
menopause, functions with sex organs)
- Paired organs that are located on top of the kidneys
Endocrine pancreas
- Located in the abdominal cavity alongside the duodenum
- Produces insulin (Upregulates glucose transporters and incorporates glucose into storage
molecules) and glucagon (Increase blood glucose in response to metabolite levels by promoting
glycogenolysis to release glucose from glycogen, Stimulates the release of fatty acids from
triglycerides)
