A solution to the pandemic?
Soon it is going to be exactly two years ago that the pandemic started and still we are struggling with
how to deal with it. Not too long ago, someone came up with the very first Covid-19 vaccination.
Since then a lot of people have been against it, claiming all sorts of things. However, maybe they
forgot that with these vaccines the Corona measures were able to loosen up a bit. The vaccines could
be the key to getting out of this pandemic, and therefore Covid vaccinations should not be forbidden.
The whole idea behind vaccinating is to make people get less sick from a certain illness. The same
goes for the Covid vaccinations. Our hospitals in the Netherlands have been overfull at one point, all
because of people who got dangerously ill from Corona. With the help of the vaccines, less people
would end up in hospitals, for example. People with different kinds of illnesses or who were waiting
to be operated came on a waiting list due to the high amount of people with Corona on the IC. When
less people get sick from the virus, the people who were waiting to be placed in the hospitals can
then actually undergo their treatments or operations.
We have all been desperate to get our normal lives back for almost two years now. When a lot of
people are vaccinated, there is some sort of groups immunity created. This would lead to less Corona
measures, like the 1,5 meter distance from each other rule. So basically more vaccinated people
means less rules, and less rules means more freedom.
There is an unsure side about these vaccines though. Because it was created not so long ago, we
cannot be sure about the long term side effects. This is the reason why many people do not want to
be vaccinated. There was not much testing time between when the vaccines got created and when
the first people were allowed to get vaccinated. Who knows what side effects may appear in about a
year, for example. For instance, maybe you will get even more sick from the vaccination than from
the Corona virus itself.
Almost no one in our country has experienced a pandemic like this before and therefore no one
knows how to solve this as quickly as possible, but maybe the vaccines play a role in getting out of
this pandemic. Even if the virus does not go away, more space for people with other life-threatening
diseases in the hospitals will be created. On top of that, we might be able to gain a little more
freedom when it comes to the Corona measures due to the vaccinations. Even though it is quite a
risk, because no one knows yet what side effects they might have, getting rid of the lockdowns and
overfull hospitals should be our top priority, and for these reasons Covid vaccinations should not be
forbidden.
