NURS-6512 DQ 2/NURS 6512: Advanced Health Assessment & Diagnostic Reasoning INITIAL POST Diversity and Health Assessments
Healthcare providers must be culturally sensitive due to the daily encounter of patients with diverse ethnicities, religious beliefs, and cultures. “A culturally competent health care provider adapts to the unique needs of patients of backgrounds and cultures that differ from his or her own belief.” (Ball et al., 2015, p. 21). Healthcare providers must apply evidence-based screening services in order to provide improved quality of care while achieving desired health outcomes and reducing healthcare costs (Dains, Baumann & Schiebel, 2016). Case Study The case study involves a 23-year-old Native American male who is seen for the clinical problem anxiety. During the screening he admits that he currently treats his anxiety with smoking “pot” and drinking alcohol. However, this lifestyle triggers more anxiety in the patient because he is afraid of not going to Heaven if continuing this behavior. Otherwise, the patient does not take any prescription drugs but has a family history of hypertension, diabetes, and alcoholism. Stati
