On encountering these antigens, B cells become activated. B cellsrespond to bacterial infection by differentiating into plasma cells – factories that produceantibodies in the body (Alberts et al., 2017). The antibodies bind particularly to the foreignantigen, like a bacterium, and inactivate it by occluding its ability to bind to receptors on hostcells.
