Ac1.2- Explain why certain crimes are unreported Person reasons-fear - Rape victims for instance since for females they are mostly blamed for their rapists actions rather than getting justice. Seen as wearing something "too revealing/too tight" Personal reasons-shame - Rvenge porn, another being in possesion fo your nudes-threat to expose. You would ashamed of everyone seeing them as well as sending them in the first place and trusting the offender. Personal reason-disinterest - Due to the lack of coverage from the media someone can be unaware a crime is taking place in front of them as in fraud. The offender would take money in small amounts so it isn't obvious or the victim is just completely uneducated on it for example elderly's who are more vunerable. Personal reasons-not Affected - For instance underage drinking, someone would witness this but because it has nothing to do with them or the fact it's normalised they wouldn't report it. As well as it not being a priority for the police compared to other cases. Social/cultural reasons-lack of knowledge - With the lack of coverage from the media since as a society we aren't concerned with w.c.c or t.c because we have little knowledge about it with the media being specific with what they do talk about which most commonly are crimes such as murder, rape, theft etc crimes the public are well educated on. Social/cultural reasons-complexity - Crimes which need specialised knowledge to understand for instance-embezzlement or tax evasion. Many think it doesn't seem to include or bother them, as well as it being something complicated to understand they don't bother. Social/cultural reasons-culture bound crime - Kristy bamboo case-he was accused of witchcraft, family thought he was possesed and so his sister and her parterner tortured him (beat/drowned) and murdered him. The priest was known later to be claiming children are "from the devil" or possesed to be called and obtain money from the family. vandalism - Wouldn't get reported since the offender is unknown and the poeple who own the propertry wouldn't care out of fear of them realiating and doing it again. Vagrancy - Percieved as a victimless crme. Wouldn't be reported because victims don't want to seem desperate or labelled as a victim. Dont want others to be aware of them begging for money out of embarrasment and generally people aren't aware it's a crime. Prostitution - People wouldn't report it because of feeling ashamed or someone having something over them-threatening them if they stop.
