Assumptions
★ Behaviour occurs in a social context:
By social we mean the other people in our species.
We are influenced by those people around us/ in our
environment. They make us conform.
The pressure to go along with the group is sometimes so
strong that others do not have to be physically present for it
to occur.
★ Wider culture and society influences people’s
behaviour:
There are two types of cultures:
Individualist: Individual needs/goals or potential
are prioritised.
Collectivist: The needs of family and the community
are prioritised.
Both cultures can have impacts on the way we think and see
things overall.
A social norm for one culture may not be a norm for another
culture.
