Developing Nursing Standards
Different entities are involved in developing nursing standards of practice for Emergency Nursing in the State of Florida. In developing and enforcing standards for emergency nursing care at the state level, specific state boards of nursing, such as the ANCC – American Nurse Credentialing Center – are involved. Also, the ANA (American Nurses Association) and JACHO – Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations – establish and recognize standards of care in Florida. For instance, the ANA relies on its members at the state level to develop an official resource whereby they are involved in research and writing statements (Heinen et al., 2019). It is a bottom-up approach that aims at ensuring standards for practice are updated and accurate – as they represent emergency nurses in Florida and across all states.
