One of the people who were checking in was a parent checking in a child.The parent did not like or believe in medical care, but the child was in pain. I asked all of theappropriate questions for the parent, including name, insurance, and chief complaint. The parentwas visibility upset. The parent became more upset as I asked routine questions and wasaggressive. I did manage to keep a cool professional tone with the parent while showingempathy, but she wanted no parts of it. She proceeded to inform me that I was a part of aconspiracy with the medical system and assured me that there must be a herbal fix for her child.However,thechildwasintearsandinclearpain.Insteadofrespondingtoherstatement,Iaskedfor her identification and insurance card. The parent threw her identification and insurance cardat me, I picked them up and scanned them into the computer. After I completed this task, Ihanded them back to her. The parent demanded to speak to my supervisor who was right behindme. I grabbed his attention so that she could speak with him. The parent then proceeded to tellmy supervisor thatIwasrude, yelling, andthrew hercardsbackat her. Once the parent went to the back patient room with her child, she became moreaggressive to the doctor giving care. The doctor was able to treat the child and came to mysupervisor to speak on my behalf. However, my supervisor proceeded to write me up ignoringwhat the doctor said and ignoring the fact that he was standing right behind me during the entiretime, I registered the patient with the parent. I was informed by my supervisor that he spoke toHR and was told that he could do whatever he wants to. I end up appealing the write up and gotit overturnedbeforeresigningfromthejob. Insight As far as the parent of the patient is concerned, I do not believe that there was anythingdifferent I could have done. I stayed professional and compassionate with her and managed myemotions (McLean, 2018). However, with my supervisor I could have done a few thingsdifferently.Icouldhavenotreactedangrily(Berkeley,2021).Iwasflabbergastedbythefactthatmy supervisor actually wrote me up. I felt that my supervisor did not listen or pay attention toanything that went on in the situation. However, I should’ve kept my emotions in check andremain patient with my supervisor so that he would at least be open to listen to what I wasactuallysaying tohim. References Berkeley, U.
