Immunity: - Process by which body recognizes foreign substances and neutralizes them to prevent damage Adaptive Immune Defense Is Characterized By: - - Specificity: Immune cells seek out and destroy targeted foreign invaders - Memory: Immune cells produce substances that remember and more easily destroy return offenders Antigen: - Substances that induces a state of sensitivity or an immune response Lymphoid Progenitor: - - Natural killer cells - T lymphocytes - B lymphocytes Myeloid Progenitor: - Cells produce other types of cells through the granulocyte/macrophage progenitor. These cells include: - Monocytes - Dendritic cells - Granulocytes - Mast cells T Lymphocytes: - Mature and fully differentiate in the thymus - Require contact with an antigen and signals the T lymphocytes to proliferate and differentiate into: Cytotoxic T cells, Helper T Lymphocytes, Suppressor T Lymphocytes
