Evidence Based Practice Article Review: Treatment of Anorexia Nervosa
Anorexia Nervosa (AN) continues to be one of the most challenging mental illnesses to treat, with significant health consequences and high morbidity and mortality rates resulting from restricted food intake and often significant weight loss (Resmark et al., 2019). With distorted body image and fear of gaining weight being core symptoms of AN, treatment and recovery may take years, with relapse and residual symptoms further complicating treatment (Resmark et al., 2019). According to Resmark et al. (2019), the German S3-Guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders has the most up-to-date guidelines for the treatment of AN, revised in 2019. In this study, the German S3-Guideline recommendations are discussed and compared to other international evidence-based clinical treatment guidelines.
