Mr Kani, the chairperson introduced the topic and explained that most of them are
facing challenges of being the centre of everyone's jokes being called different names
and face negative criticism on daily basis. He indicated that some other victims of
obesity are even now ashamed to visit friends and relatives because they are afraid that
they may break the furniture. Mr Kani passed the opportunity to Mr Kay to discuss on
the best we can positively control overweight problems based on the research he
conducted as the Head of the Department of Sport and Recreation at the university.
In his opening, Mr Kay thanked the chair and go straight to the point that battling with
extra wight is a challenge to both young or old, men or women. He explained that Some
people are genetically predisposed to obesity but that is no reason to accept the health
risk of being overweight without trying to do something about it: He elaborated that in
the workplace, skinnier people are more inclined to get a promotion compared to their
overweight colleagues. In his explanation, he pointed out that crash diets are not an
answer because as you lose some kilos, they will pile again. Other women are affected
with overweight that the lose their self-image and get affected with eating disorders
such as anorexia and bulimia.
