P3. Explore the organisation structures, aims and objectives of two contrasting
businesses.
In this assignment I am going to analyse and explain the business structure and how
it works for my chosen businesses which are Tesco and Starbucks. Also, I am going
to explain their aims and objectives for each business.

TESCO
Tesco is a British multinational grocery and general merchandise seller company.
It’s headquartered in England. Tesco follows a hierarchical organizational structure.
In this structure, positions and obligations are divided into many parts to ensure work
will be done efficiently and smoothly. The ones at the top of the business pyramid
have the maximum responsibilities and authority.

HIERARCHICAL STRUCTURE
The hierarchical structure is typical for larger businesses and organisations. It relies
on having different levels of authority with a chain of command connecting multiple
management levels within the organisation. The decision-making process is typically
formal and flows from the top down. This creates a tall organisational structure
where each level of management has clear lines of responsibility and control. As the
organisation grows, the number of levels increases, and the structure grows taller.

Tesco has a hierarchical structure. It is mainly a functional structure as it focuses on
the different departments in the business. The reason they use a hierarchical

structure is also based on function as opposed to location and is successful because
has coordination and efficiency. Tesco employs hundreds of thousands of people
around the world, and it would be impossible for one person to keep an eye on all of
them. That is why Tesco uses a hierarchy structure to manage different countries,
different departments, different stores, and different people. Using a hierarchy
structure also means that customers get the best care in the business. This helps
Tesco to fulfil its purpose. Furthermore, employees know their roles entirely and
know the requirements and what they are responsible for. Also, it allows for
management to run more smoothly when everybody has an individual place with a
task-completion motive. Tesco has a large number of managers, and each manager
will usually be responsible for a small group of employees. Having many managers
can be beneficial to Tesco, as it reduces confusion and allows managers to control
their areas of the company more easily. This’s successful for Tesco to executives to
focus on making major business decisions instead of using their energy on the
various daily decisions that are important when running a business .

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The structure helps to achieve its aims and objective because the Tesco’s structure
depends on its objectives and the strategy, this will then tell everyone to contribute to
achieving the target that they will have to achieve in a given period of time. This will
help enables effective team or the staff who understand their own role and contribute
their very best to Tesco to achieve its target. This will also determine how roles,
