1. Observation activity
Period 1
The classroom (e.g. is there enough seating, is it clean, etc.)
The classroom was fairly clean. There was enough seating for all the learners, they
each have their own desk and chair they don't share desks.
The atmosphere (e.g. is it inviting, interesting, conducive to learning, well-resourced or not,
etc.)
The atmosphere was quiet and inviting there where a few posters on the wall
regarding maths that the learners can look at to help.
The subject.
Mathematics.
The teaching approach (e.g. direct instruction, interactive learning, etc.) and how learners
respond to this.
This teachers approach was interactive he asked a lot of questions and gave the
learners the opportunity to give answers and ask questions if they did not
understand something, the learners respond to this was very good they like to
interact with the teacher.
The expectations the teacher has of learners (how they must enter, where they must sit,
what they may or may not do, how they may (participate) and how learners respond.
The teacher expects the children to enter quietly. The learners should leave there
bags outside the class and only enter with there relevant text books, then they
should sit down at their own desks. The learners respond well to this, sometimes
they do take a long time to enter the class because they talk to each other outside
instead of coming inside the class.
Time spent on task (how much of the period is used for teaching and learning) and what
learners do if there is time left.
The teacher takes 20 min to teach and interact with the learners then he hands out
the work to the learners and the rest of the 20 min that are left in the period is used
so that the learners can do there work that will then become homework if they don't
finish in time.
Learner interactions.
The learners love to interact and give answers to the teacher, they also like to learn
how to solve the math questions.
Learner behaviour in general.
The learners are well behaved, they are interested in learning and they love the
interactive method the teacher has.
