Abstract
Ms. Lashaya Campbell is a 58-year-old female who has been diagnosed with chronic renal
failure, uncontrolled hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus. She was transported to the ED
with complaints of difficulty breathing. She also presents with peripheral edema and pulmonary
edema. She has been prescribed nifedipine, glyburide, and regular human insulin. Effective
execution of pharmacological treatment for difficulty breathing related to pulmonary edema from
her chronic renal failure; the treatment plan for Ms. Campbell in this case study is reviewed from
the perspective of the healthcare professionals assigned in her care. The healthcare professionals
devise a strategy to advocate effective care in her dyspnea and management of her hypertension
and type 2 diabetes mellitus, through a pharmacological standpoint, in an emergency department.
The providers have a crucial role in encouraging, empowering and providing resources to
support Ms. Campbell to provide quality self-management.
